You probably know them for their Sebago loafers and Sebago Docksides. Sebago is a name synonymous with craftsmanship and tradition, with a rich history dating back to its origins in America long ago. Daniel J. Wellehan, owner of five shoe shops in the region, decided to open his own factory and partnered with two local shoe manufacturers - William Beaudoin and Joseph Cordeau. Thus, Sebago-Moc was born, inspired by the nearby Sebago Lake, which means "long-shaped water basin" in the native Abenaki language.

The story of Sebago shoes began with the birth of the iconic "penny loafer", hand-sewn according to native tradition, and still one of Sebago's best-selling models. In 1948, the first boat shoes were launched, but the patent was sold to Uniroyal. By 1950, Sebago-Moc's turnover reached 1 million dollars, and in 1952, daily production reached 2000 pairs of shoes, resulting in the construction of a new factory. In 1965, Sebago shoes started selling in Europe thanks to a partnership with entrepreneur Francisco Gaudier. The range expanded to include women's shoes in 1963, and in 1970, the iconic Docksides® design was launched, another bestseller for the brand. In honor of this occasion, the company name was simplified to Sebago®. In 1978, passionate sailor and CNN founder, Ted Turner, agreed to lend his image to Sebago Docksides products.

The quality of Sebago shoes is extremely high. The leather is soft but durable, and the soles are genuinely non-slip. In 1981, the Campsides® outdoor line was launched, and in 1984, Sebago® became the first American company to sponsor a boat in the O-Star Race. More significant sponsorship deals in the world of sailing followed, including the Celebrity Regatta, the Liberty Cup, the Americas Cup, and the Young America team in the Louis Vuitton Cup 96/97.
