Heritage & Philosophy

Oakley was born in 1975 when founder Jim Jannard left his sales job with a $300 investment and a DIY mentality. Named after his English Setter “Oakley Anne,” the brand first made motorcycle grips from a proprietary rubber compound called Unobtainium. Rejecting conventional paths, Oakley built its own injection‑molding machinery and set out to solve performance challenges directly: an ethos that still drives every innovation today.

Signature Technology & Design

At its core, Oakley marries cutting‑edge materials with precision engineering. O‑Matter frames combine lightweight durability and flexibility, while patented PRIZM™ lens technology fine‑tunes contrast for specific environments. High‑definition optics deliver clarity without distortion, and Unobtainium components ensure secure, sweat‑resistant fit. With more than 600 patents spanning eyewear, apparel and accessories, Oakley constantly redefines the boundaries of comfort and performance.

Brand Vision & Evolution

Looking forward, Oakley continues to design artifacts for tomorrow, most recently through its Artifacts From The Future campaign designed for 2075 and released in 2025. Collaborations with elite athletes such as Jaylen Brown and Kylian Mbappé showcase high‑wrap eyewear as both functional gear and cultural iconography. At the same time, Oakley is exploring sustainable materials and modular service solutions to extend product lifecycles, ensuring its bold, solution‑oriented spirit endures well into the future .
