Oakley was born in 1975 when founder Jim Jannard left his sales job with a $300 investment and a DIY mentality. Named after his English Setter “Oakley Anne,” the brand first made motorcycle grips from a proprietary rubber compound called Unobtainium. Rejecting conventional paths, Oakley built its own injection‑molding machinery and set out to solve performance challenges directly: an ethos that still drives every innovation today.
