Inside the mind of Bas with the HOKA Stinson Evo OG TP

The art of curation at Baskèts
Behind every product in our stores lies a carefully curated selection process. From the latest sneaker drops to timeless wardrobe staples, everything is chosen with purpose. To shed some light on this, we sat down with our in-house buyer to talk about their day-to-day, the evolution of sneaker culture, and the fine balance between performance and lifestyle.

A day in the life
My days always start with a coffee and a deep dive into the previous day’s sale”, our buyer explains. “I check which products are moving, place restock orders where possible and ensure the best seller stay in stock. After catching up on my e-mails I usually head out for a lunch meeting followed by a showroom visit to preview upcoming collections. At the showroom, we curate a selection that tells a complete story, choosing the best pieces that align wit the Baskèts DNA. After that, it’s back to the office for a final round of emails and catching up with the team before calling it a day.”

Joy of curation
When asked about the most rewarding part of the role, who things come to mind:
“Connecting with inspiring people across different brand and discussing how the sneaker and apparel industry is evolving,” Bas says. “But also getting to tell stories through products, being ahead of trends and seeing collections before they launch is something special.”Bas explains that understanding what moves and inspires our audience help to choose which brands fit in with Baskèts. ’We don’t just buy products to fill shelves, we want to work with brands on activations, create engagement and involve our community”This is especially relevant when it comes to performance footwear. ’There’s been a huge shift back to sneakers after a period where classic leather shoes dominated. The rise of running and sports in general has influenced what people wear every day. They want sneakers that perform but also fits into their lifestyle.”

The rise of performance sneakers
“The thin line between performance and lifestyle is what excite me most right now” our buyer explains. “We’re seeing a movement where people want sneakers that feel like the real deal, technical, lightweight and built for movement. However, they also want it to work outside of the gym or track.”Running has shaped a major role in shaping this mindset. “For me running has changed the way I look at sneakers. It’s no longer just about aesthetics, the functionality matters. A good sneaker should be versatile, something you can run in, but also grab a coffee afterwards.

HOKA, performance meets style
One brand that perfectly embodies this balance is HOKA. HOKA is a relatively young compared to other sneaker brands, and that’s exactly what makes them exciting. They focus on innovation, pushing the boundaries of performance and lifestyle design.”
