Heritage & Philosophy

Founded in 2001 by artist Shepard Fairey, OBEY grew out of Fairey’s “Andre the Giant Has a Posse” street campaign and his commitment to art as activism. From its roots in Providence’s underground art scene, the brand channels Fairey’s populist ideals and commentary on consumer culture into each design.

Signature Aesthetic & Materials

OBEY designs draw on military-inspired silhouettes and workwear staples, featuring sturdy cotton twills, chambray shirts and heavyweight fleece. Graphic tees and jackets bear Fairey’s bold propaganda-style imagery, screen-printed in limited runs to preserve authenticity. Construction emphasizes durability with reinforced seams and premium hardware.

Brand Vision & Evolution

OBEY remains true to its activist origins while evolving through collaborations and community projects. The label partners with artists, musicians and cultural institutions to explore social themes: from satirical political prints to gallery exhibitions. By integrating art, fashion and message-driven storytelling, OBEY invites wearers to engage with ideas and spark dialogue.
