Baskèts DJ Boots is our tribute to the footwear that carries DJs through the longest nights. Hours of shifting weight, leaning, moving, and reaching for the next transition while the crowd loses itself in the moment. Behind the booth, their shoes hold it all together. This series brings that story forward.
For this edition, we met up with Jarreau Vandal, a selector whose journey began at a DJ workshop from Stichting Nowhere in 2012. Influenced by artists like Cinnaman and Jameszoo, he developed a taste for DJs who can combine the energy of heavy techno sets and the raw energy of hip-hop. Since his international breakthrough in 2014, his focus has remained on the music and the community around it.
When it comes to his fit, Jarreau keeps it balanced. He prefers one bold item with more colours or patterns to lead the look, keeping the rest of the outfit chill. It is a mindset that prioritises comfort without losing his sense of style.
The Puma F Stead fits this philosophy perfectly. He describes them as a true household classic. For Jarreau, a good shoe needs to handle the pressure of back-to-back gigs on long days where you are constantly on the move. The Puma F Stead offers a sole that isn't stiff, ensuring he has the flexibility he needs throughout his day.
To explain the spirit of the shoe, Jarreau hums an old-school song: "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash. It’s a track that, in his opinion, captures the heritage of the Puma Suede lineage, which he remembers first recognising in the pages of a subway graffiti book from the 80s.
Looking ahead, the goal is simple: keep making music and taking his sound to even larger stages worldwide. As he continues to level up, he stays grounded in the classics that allow him to do what he loves.
The Puma F. Stead collection is available in store and online.
